Levels of Play

Rookie League

Players and coaches involved in the Rookie League focus on introducing and improving basic baseball skills in a fun environment. Focus is on basic skill development such as throwing, swinging, fielding and running. Introduction of basic baseball rules. The goal is that players develop skills to play at the Minor B League level.

• Beginning or basic skilled players ages 5-7
• Regular attendance desired
• Practices/games total 2-3 times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday)
• Team rosters determined by Player Agent & League Coordinator
• Coach pitch (batting tee may be used)
• Unique GV Rules
• Inning ends after 5 runs or 3 outs
• Game ends with 5 innings or 75 min. time limit
• No score kept during games
• Equal playing time and position rotation
• Defensive team coaching staff is umpire, if needed
• Weekday games in various parks, Sat games at Isaacson Park

Minor B League

Players and coaches involved in Minor B focus on improving basic baseball skills while developing basic teamwork and understanding of the rules and roles in game situations. The league is focused on providing experience in a fun environment. The goal is that players develop skills to play at the Minor A level.

• Ages 7-9 (higher skilled 7 year olds, 8 year olds, beginning level 9 year olds)
• Regular attendance expected
• Practices/games total 3 times per week (Tue, Thur, Sat) 2 games a week most weeks
• Team rosters determined by Player Agent & League Coordinator
• Machine pitch progressing to kid pitch (2nd half of season)
• Unique GVLL Rules
• Inning ends after 5 runs or 3 outs
• Game ends with 6 innings or 90 min. time limit
• Equal playing time and position rotation
• 11 person team rosters with 10 fielders
• Defensive coaching staff responsible for umpire decisions (youth umpires, on Sat & when available)
• Weekday games in various parks, Sat games at Isaacson Park


Minor A League

Players and coaches involved in Minor A focus on developing fundamental, consistent offensive and defensive-skilled players who gain experience playing multiple positions. Players acquire an understanding of fundamental game strategy in competitive game and practice settings with the goal that they gain the skills and desire to play at the Majors level.

• Developing players ages 8-11 (higher skilled 8, higher skilled 9, 10, 11
• Teams determined by Draft
• Regular attendance required
• Practices/games total 4-5 times per week (depending on manager)
• Games mainly played on Mon, Wed, Fri.
• Player pitch (pitch count applies)
• Little League rules with minimal special rules
• Mandatory rotation between infield & outfield for players
• Inning ends after 5 runs or 3 outs
• 11 person team roster, with 9-10 fielders
• Equal playing time
• Inter-league play likely
• Youth umpires
• Practices at GV Parks. All games at Isaacson Park or other city’s fields


Major League

Players and coaches involved in the Major League focus on developing balanced teams that are based on individual skill refinement, teamwork, and understanding and execution of game strategy with the goal of all teams playing competitively against each other and at the District level.

• Highest skilled players ages 10-12
• Teams determined by Draft
• Strict attendance required
• Practices/games total 5 to 6 times per week
• Games mainly played on Tue, Thur, Sat
• Player pitch (pitch count applies)
• Little League rules (www.littleleague.org)
• Continuous batting in regular season
• No equal playing time
• No position rotation required
• 2 innings minimum defensive play for all players
• 11 person roster, with 9 fielders
• Practice at GV Parks. All games at Isaacson Park or other city’s fields
• Once on a Major League team, player is guaranteed to remain in   the Major division for future seasons.
