Golden Valley Little League has a required volunteer component to participating in the league. Please read below for details about volunteering with GVLL.

Golden Valley Little League has moved to a new volunteer website called Civic Champs. Civic Champs is where you will find opportunities to complete your required volunteering hours and be able to track how many hours you have earned so far.

Each person who will be contributing to a player(s) volunteering requirements should set up a free account. Sharing accounts by multiple people is discouraged, because it makes it difficult for us to track who is signing up for an opportunity and to reach out to you should an unexpected issue, such as bad weather, require us to cancel.

To sign up for Civic Champs, please follow these steps:

Households with one GVLL player need 10 total hours and households with two or more players need 15 total hours. Hours can be earned any time throughout the year, including pre-season, regular season, tournaments, and fall season.

Hours can be earned in a variety of ways:

Team Staff for the regular spring season: Team staff are designated at the beginning of the spring season, and these positions earn the following hours. You may express your interest in managing or coaching during registration in Sports Connect, and a league coordinator will reach out to you. The Field Prep Parent and Team Parent will be identified by the Manager, and you can express your interest in either of those roles to your Manager.

Team Manager - 15 hours
1st Named Coach - 10 hours
2nd Named Coach - 10 hours
Field Prep Parent - 5 hours
Team Parent - 5 hours

Concessions Stand: You may sign up to work the concession stand to earn your hours during the regular or fall ball seasons. Concessions stand shifts will be available to sign up in Civic Champs. Please reach out to Jessica Hering if you need help with Civic Champs.

Some families hire a student worker to work the concessions stand for them. Payment for the student worker is between the worker and the family. You must still sign up for these shifts in Civic Champs to claim them, even if you plan to pay a student worker to work for you. If you'd like support with hiring a student worker to complete concessions stand hours on your behalf, please express your interest to Joe Gall.
*Grilling shifts in the Concessions Stand may only be fulfilled by an adult.

Announcing: You may sign up to announce a game on Isaacson Field 1 during the regular or fall ball seasons. This entails announcing players at-bats and operating the scoreboard on Field 1. Many people announce during their own child's game, but this is not required. Announcing shifts will be available to sign up in Civic Champs.

Clinics and Player Evaluation Day: Volunteering at pre-season clinics or player evaluation day requires some prior experience. If you are interested in this option, please express your interest to Scott Leer.

Board Membership: If you hold a Board Member position, you will earn 15 hours per year. If you are interested in any open board positions, please express your interest to Pat Dale.

Other miscellaneous opportunities sometimes arise during the year, and the board will share these opportunities if and when they are available.

If you are signed up for a Concessions Stand, Grilling, or Announcing shift the there is inclement weather, you WILL receive credit for the hours if the shift was cancelled close to/at starting time and you were present at the field for the shift, and you WILL NOT receive credit for the hours if the shift was cancelled in advance.

You need to verify your contact information in the Civic Champs app to be sure you can receive emails from Civic Champs as this will be the primary method of communication. You can also view the GVLL website to check if games have been cancelled due to inclement weather, or reach out to Jessica Hering.

What Does the Field Prep Parent Do

The Field Prep Parent is one designated person who agrees to complete the field prep for the team when they are the home team for the season. The following is a list of tasks they may need to complete. Instructions for how to complete these tasks will be given.

• Roll up the tarps that are on the field
• Rake the field
• Chalk the 1st and 3rd base lines
• Put the bases out
• Roll out the tarp, if needed after the game
• Retrieve and/or store equipment in the shed if you are the first or last game of the day
  

What Does the Team Parent Do

The Team Parent is one designated person who agrees to assist the manager with coordination tasks for the season. The following is a list of tasks they may need to complete. Each team will have different needs, depending on the age of the players and the manager's preferences.

• Create a team banner or cards with player info on them to help the team families get to know the players and cheer them on.
• Collect medical waivers for the manager, if needed
• Assist with distribution of Little League Day at the Twins or picture day information
• Assist in the dugout (at coaches request)
• Organize a snack sign-up
• Organize a team party and/or coaches thank-yous (optional)
• Support the manager and coaches with communication via messaging apps and/or emails

If you would rather buy out of your volunteer requirement, families may submit a payment of $300 to Golden Valley Little League. This will fulfill your volunteer hours for the year. Please express your interest in this option to Jessica Hering.
